The lively and unique Wine Harvest restaurant is a friendly environment where customers can share a dinner with the family, and adults and kids can kick back, relax and enjoy good food any time of the day.
As soon as customers walk into the Wine Harvest, lavish amounts of wines greet them and neatly cover the walls from the top of the ceiling to the floor, while the smell of freshly baked baguettes lingers in the air.
Marty and Randi Meryrowitz originally started The Wine Harvest in Gaithersburg.
“We both had a love of wine, so we decided to build the store from scratch in the Kentland’s Market Square,” Marty said.
The Wine Harvest has two locations. The first restaurant is located in Gaithersburg at the Kentland’s on 114 Market Street. The most recent location is in Park Potomac near Harris Teeter.
According to Marty, they have made many efforts to get the word out including creating a website and Facebook page. They also hold free monthly wine tastings, advertise in local media, and sponsor events for local charities and schools, including CHS.
“The idea of purchasing The Wine Harvest started with Marty,” Randi said. “We saw it as a unique opportunity, so we bought it on April 1, 2002.”
Everyone in the family is involved in making the restaurant a success.
According to Randi, the restaurant has developed into a real family business and is more like a “family harvest.” Even if they do not live in the area, everyone contributes to the business when they can.
The Wine Harvest’s menu ranges from sandwiches to soups and salads as well as cheese plates, appetizers and a variety of wines and beer. The prices vary from $5 to $13. Even though it is called The Wine Harvest, it has many offerings for younger diners.
According to Randi, her favorite sandwich is the Orchard, which consists of brie, green apples, honey mustard and lettuce on whole wheat bread.
The tuna melt and chicken salad sandwich are the most popular dishes on the menu, which can be found on their website.
For a sweet taste, The Wine Harvest is starting to offer chocolates for customers to purchase. They have an array of exclusive, high-end chocolates that the Meryrowitz family feels complements the wine.
The chocolates consist of bon bons and chocolate bars. In the near future, the restaurant hopes to incorporate the chocolate in the menu and have wine and beer pairings with the chocolate.
Though the goal for the restaurant is to primarily focus on value wine opportunities, and be able to provide good wine at a reasonable price, Randi explains that the restaurant has a group of high school students that come for lunch almost every week.
“They sit in the same place, and order the same food,” Randi said.
The Wine Harvest Restaurant is a great hangout whether coming for amazing food or, for older diners, going to taste the plentiful wine and beer. The restaurant will welcome you with open arms no matter if you are in your Sunday best or in a sweatshirt and jeans.
