After an entertaining and emotional Mr. Churchill with engaging performances from all the contestants, the Observer sat down with the two winners of the night, seniors Nadim Elhage and Nachu Bhatnagar. Elhage rapped and sang for his talent, and Bhatnagar performed stand-up comedy. After Elhage officially won the coveted title of Mr. Churchill, he gave his crown to Bhatnagar to honor his bravery fighting cancer.
Q. What was your favorite part of the competition?
Nachu: The talent section for sure. It let everyone go out and be themselves and get everyone to enjoy what made them special.
Nadim: My favorite part was defnitely performing in front of a huge crowd with all my friends watching and performing and messing around with all my friends in the show.
Q. How do you feel now that Mr. Churchill is over?
Nachu: Tired, and really happy. It was exhausting getting ready for it, but I got to become friends with some really awesome people and I’m glad.
Nadim: It is weird for it to be over. For four years it’s been awesome to see and be in it and now that it’s over I’m starting to feel as though high school is getting closer and closer to ending.
Q. What inspired you to be in the pageant?
Nachu: I wanted to do Mr. Churchill during my junior year, but when I was unable to do it due to cancer I thought it criminal not to try as a senior.
Nadim: I don’t really plan on doing anything with the honor. I am just happy everyone enjoyed the show as much as they did.
Q. What do you plan to do with this honor?
Nachu: I plan on spreading Churchill cheer and goodwill. It was a lot of fun, and I think having something like Mr. Churchill goes a long way towards bringing the school together.
Nadim: It doesn’t matter if you are good at what you do or bad. Go out there and enjoy it with all your friends. Before you know it high school is going to be over and you are going to remember things like this.
