Dr. Katherine Harris, a senior research scientist at Medstar Health Research Institute, gave an MTS lecture on Dec. 3. She discussed her study to find the correlation between the Affordable Care Act and financial protection for families in the US.
“We showed that the Affordable Care Act increased financial protection for young adults and families,” Harris said.
Harris is a CHS alumna. She graduated from the University of Michigan and later joined Medstar as a research scientist. MTS students got to hear from Harris and learn more about her study involving mathematics, science experimentation and statistics.
According to Harris, if students want to do what she does, they should be very alert when taking math and science classes.
“Take statistics and always be on the lookout,” Harris said. “Think about how to use data.”
