With over a dozen different honor societies operating at WCHS, it can feel overwhelming to understand what and where each honor society is. Below is a guide to all the societies, their sponsors and their requirements for acceptance.
National Honor Society – Jamie Frank
The most well-known group is the National Honor Society. The application to this group requires two leadership positions held for at least a semester, three service activities and five academic teacher recommendations.
Art National Honor Society – Jillian Tebay
The Art National Honor Society requires holding an A in all art classes, two teacher recommendations, maintaining a B in all other classes and eight hours of community service related to art.
French National Honor Society – Diana Jenab
This society is open to students who have done three semesters of French and have a 3.6 GPA in French and all other courses. Members have to participate in all meetings and complete a minimum of 10 hours of language tutoring.
Chinese Honor Society – Bing Li
A prospective member of this society must have taken at least three semesters of Chinese at WCHS and must maintain a B or higher in Chinese and other subjects.
ASL Honor Society – Josh Lothridge
Students in this society must have completed American Sign Language 1 with a 3.75 GPA or gotten a score of 2+ on the American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI).
Engineering Honor Society – Yuri Achille
Students applying to this group must be a junior or senior, and maintain a 3.7 unweighted GPA or above. Students explore engineering-related projects and other related activities.
Science Honor Society – James Nugent
This honor society requires students to have just one B for every three As and four science credits. Members of this society may enjoy science presentations and projects.
Technology Honor Society – Marla Rudnick
This society is open to sophomores and above. They recognize students with achievements in technology, meeting once a month in room 246.
Computer Science Honor Society – Katherine Pomeroy
Students must have completed at least one computer science course at WCHS and must be currently enrolled in or have finished AP Java or Programming 3. They must complete ten hours of community service and help at lunch, and maintain a 3.5 average in all computer science classes.
Tri-M Music Honor Society – Ariel Allal
This is an international program dedicated to recognizing exceptional music students from grades 6-12 and requires students to meet various academic, leadership and character criteria. They host a variety of events, including an upcoming music book drive.
Social Studies Honor Society – Rodney Van Tassell
This society requires applicants to be a senior, have completed the three required social studies classes and in total be taking at least two other non-required social studies classes. They must have an unweighted grade of 3.5 in social studies and have related community involvement.
Spanish Honor Society – Teresa Volante
Students in this society, also known as Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica, must maintain an unweighted GPA of 3.7, take three semesters of Spanish in high school and be enrolled in a Spanish class for all four years of high school. The society hosts Spanish and Latin American-themed celebrations, as well as offers Spanish tutoring services.
Math Honor Society – Corinne Aghion
This society, also known as Mu Alpha Theta, requires applicants to have taken honors math classes throughout high school, have a 4.0 in math classes, have a teacher recommendation from the math department and be enrolled in an AP Calculus or higher. Once a member, students will have to participate in the honor societies’ tutoring program.
English Honor Society – Mary Dempsey
EHS, as this society is commonly known, is open to all juniors and seniors with a 3.5 overall GPA and a 3.75 English GPA. An application and letter of interest is required for acceptance and once a member students must fulfill service “points.”
