Dating is an oxymoron for most teenagers. It is simultaneously feared and desired, and especially as Valentine’s Day is approaching, it is becoming an issue that must be urgently addressed. Whether you need help finding the perfect place to ask someone to “go out”, or a place to take that person on a date, the Observer has your back.
Library
Truly an underrated and underutilized classic, the library is the go-to casual date for any student wanting to catch up with a would-be partner and their studies. Any student at WCHS will understand the immense workload students must complete, and the library is an excellent compromise between balancing that workload and getting to know someone. Luckily, all the local libraries are surrounded by restaurants and walkable areas as well.
Cafe
Cheap, convenient and classy. There are so many cafes for all kinds of dates. Casual dates, tea-party dates, study dates, coffee dates; cafes are the solution to any date conundrum. For the more involved dates, themed cafes provide a unique experience. Cat cafes like Crumbs and Whiskers in D.C provide snacks and cuddles for all customers. And for those looking to keep it casual, there is always Starbucks, waiting for customers to indulge in the large selection of drinks and sweet treats.
Concert
A concert date, the ultimate test of good taste, is a great way to get to know someone. Bonding over similar interests is a special experience and so is seeing your favorite artist on stage. A concert date is also an excellent way of ensuring you and your date have something to talk about the whole time. Activity dates have similar benefits to concert-going, so do not be afraid to plan a date at a museum if that is more comfortable. It is also convenient that focusing on an artist performing can reduce some of the pressure during a date because you can both rock out!
School
Unexpectedly, but perhaps the most accessible option of all, high schools are excellent date venues. Throughout the school year, there are art shows, theater productions, concerts and sports games. While it might be expensive to take a date out to a touring Broadway show, WCHS’ theater is ready to serve with more accessible prices and incredible performances. In the fall, football games are a staple of a traditional high school experience, with excited crowds and delicious food. Sometimes, the best solutions are hidden right under our noses.
Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to plan a platonic date, or try your luck at asking out someone special. But remember not to stress, because the goal of a date is to have a good time. Whatever that might mean personally, stay true to yourself, because if the date goes well, then you know you are meant to be.
