CHS freshmen gathered at Shepherd Stadium during lunch Thursday for the annual D.A.W.G.S. Freshman Picnic.
According to event co-chair and CHS parent Natasha Greig, D.A.W.G.S. is an acronym for “Dances and Activities with Great Spirit.”
“The purpose of this event is to have the kids who come from Hoover and Cabin John mingle with each other,” Greig said. “And to meet them, of course, and welcome them to Churchill.”
Freshman class sponsor and social studies teacher Evan Rosenthal believes the event was a success.
“I think we had 70-75-80% of the freshman class show up,” Rosenthal said.
Freshman class administrator Joshua Neuman-Sunshine also thinks the picnic was successful because it helped bring the freshman class together.
“I think it’s great for school spirit and starting off the year on the right foot,” Neuman-Sunshine said.
Many freshmen also enjoyed the picnic.
“I liked having everyone in one spot because it let me meet and get familiar with new people as well as make new friends,” freshman Sara Heimlich said.
