The newly formed peer mentoring program Each One Reach One was created to allow members to make connections with students with disabilities in a judgment-free environment.
The club meets the first Wednesday of each month and plans activities that take place outside of school, including dinner and movie nights, as well as community service events.
“[These are] ways to promote positive social networking and to support the Churchill community,” Each One Reach One faculty advisor Brandi Richardson said.
According to club president and junior Alex Abdun-nabi, the program does not pair members with students, rather, they have group activities in order to “create a feeling similar to ‘hanging out’ with friends,” fostering interaction and emphasizing relationship building.
Each One Reach One has held a pizza dinner at Ledo’s Nov. 20 and a movie night at AMC Loews Rio Dec. 19.
“Our first event was a definite success,” Abdun-nabi said. “Student and parent response was overwhelmingly positive and everyone had a great time.”
