HS, I have come to realize that the reason I have had such a fulfilling high school experience is because I waited for senior year to come to me naturally.
Senior year is not only the year of graduating, attending prom and enrolling in college. Senior year means roaming the food court of Montgomery Mall during lunchtime, being able to skip class without teachers asking if you were really “sick” and having the opportunity to have your own parking spot. These are some cherished senior year privileges that I have really come to appreciate.
The only thing that ruins my excitement about these treasured privileges are the junior and underclassmen students who are compelled to mimic the privileges that we, as seniors, have so patiently earned the right to practice.
In fact, I feel pity toward these senior-wannabes because when their time comes to take the much anticipated role of a CHS senior, their experience will certainly not be as fulfilling as those of the students who waited their turn.
Another quality of senior year that the majority of seniors acknowledge is that we are all going our separate ways next year and unfortunately may not stay close with most of our current friends.
With that being said, seniors have a greater opportunity to have fun and mingle with students they would not necessarily reach out to.
This however, is not an invitation for sophomores to attend senior parties. I am not saying that I would be angry if I saw a sophomore at a party who I happen to like and be friends with. What I am saying is that underclassmen as a whole should not be at the top of the guest list at a senior party.
In regards to the senior privilege of having our own parking spots, juniors should not be buying and auctioning parking spots because they have not yet earned the right and seniority to have one. A number of juniors do not even have a license, let alone a car; juniors are getting ahead of themselves by using these unfair methods to get a parking spot.
My last suggestion for all of you juniors and underclassmen is to attend school and do your work. You have not yet reached the point in high school where you are allowed to act like you have absolutely no care for your schoolwork. Although this might be true, you are still at the stage where you need to work hard and do well in order to earn the right to completely slack off and take advantage of your possibly easy senior year classes and partial schedules.
With all this being said, enjoy the rest of your high school experience, especially your senior year (when the time comes). Freshman and sophomores, enjoy your time sitting in the locker quads at lunch; these are the only two years that you will be able to pull it off. Juniors try to take pleasure in eating in the cafeteria with all of your friends and getting a little exercise from that long walk from Tuckerman in the morning; next year you will have the chance to be lazy and park closer to the school resulting in gaining a few pounds from eating at the food court every day of the year.
