The CHS community is mourning the loss of two dedicated teachers. Special Education teacher Ruth Checker passed away Nov. 14 after a long battle with cancer, and math teacher Craig Whyte passed away Nov. 15.
Checker taught in the Special Education department for seven years, and according to Special Education resource teacher Tishya Sonia-Chopra, she was a dedicated worker who did whatever she could to help students reach their full potential.
“She went above the call of duty whenever she could,” Special Education resource teacher Tishya Sonia-Chopra said. “She always walked in with a smile.”
Whyte taught AB Calculus and Precalculus over the course of eight years at CHS and is remembered by math resource teacher Curtis Southworth as a good, funny and dynamic teacher.
“He’s one of those teachers you’re not going to forget,” senior Adam Watkins said. “He was one of the funniest teachers I’ve had. He was like a friend. He did more than teach.”
